The Geology of Shoes

A video that showcases not just the craft of making shoes, but also a pretty awesome shoe design idea.

Piece | The "reverse-collar" necklace

Wear your collar necklace the other way around - as Karl had the models doing at Chanel with their necklaces resembling
headphones, or for a more simple take, this Alexis Bittar collar. According to The Cut:

"By flipping it around and showing a bit of skin at the neck, the piece keeps a clean line that elongates rather than stunts the neck visually." But take note, "It looks best with some clavicle so wear it with a loosely buttoned silk shirt to the office or paired with a strapless dress for a cocktail affair."

Liberty DIY | Découpage bowl

Everyone did papier maché as a kid right? Well the Liberty Craft Blog (yes, it exists!) recently featured a tutorial for papier maché 2.0 and it's way out of the league of anything I even made growing up.

Instead of newspaper, they used material! Inspired! Why didn't I think of that? It's the perfect project to recycle old material scraps you have lying at home.

DIY | Framed Collections

How about making art out of stuff that you can't bear to throw away but that has no real use? I'm a hoarder and keep everything from attractive stamps to postcards to film and theatre stubs. Most of the time they end up gathering dust in a corner, but buy a cheap clip frame and they become something you want to put on your walls.

Ok, so the collection I've framed here was hardly ever rubbish - these delicate paper cut-outs (how the hell did someone cut out in such detail?!) were brought back from China to me by a friend - but they were sitting gathering dust because I didn't know how to use them. And the method is the same for any collection of things that you might have lying about.

Polish the glass and then DON'T touch the side that will go against your collection!

Here are some other framed collections:

Stamps - an oldie but a goodie

Bags, a novel idea

Swimsuits - wacky but works

And this woman who made a Valentine's Day present from the ticket stubs of plays she and her husband had been to together.

DIY | Cards

It's a shame to throw beautiful stamps away. So I turned them into note cards by pasting them to blank cards that I bought for 15 cent each in Handyworks, Dalkey. Either cut the stamps from the envelope or soak them off in a little water.

Take your blank cards

Cut the stamp off the envelope.

Mark the centre of the card - the stamp is so small that it's very noticeable if you stick it off-centre.

Paint glue on the back of the stamp - use glue sparingly as you don't want to distort the stamps.

Ta-da! I think they make very elegant, interesting and cost-effective note cards.
If you buy stamps from a collectors' then your cards will have an historical dimension too!

Feeling Inspired by... #1

K-Pop, and Seoul Fashion Week rather randomly. But these people know how to mix! ADR would fit right in, she should get on that. With so much going on in all these outfits they're a DIYer's dream - it doesn't all depend on the simple but hard-to-recreate cut of the item, which you get more often in European Fashion Weeks and makes a DIY more difficult. Found | Handbag Backpack

As someone who cycles a lot, this Steven Alan backpack/handbag (handpack? backbag?! #tryingtoohard) really appeals.
